'My Kontrabida Girl' can be a bida in the box office!

Ever had that one person you that grew up with you?
That one person that you've lost communication because of a single mistake when you were young?
What if you're given a chance to get back to that person, will you get revenge or start all over again?

That is what you'll experience in GMA Films' newest summer offering - My Kontrabida Girl.

Last March 12, 2012 GMA Films and SM Cinemas held the exclusive Press Screening of My Kontrabida Girl at SM North EDSA Cinema 3. Members of the press as well as top executives are present to watch the special advanced screening of the movie.

To tell you a little background on the storyline of the movie;
The country’s leading soap opera villainess is so effective at her job that people can’t stand her in real life! Isabel Reyes (Rhian Ramos), famed actress and soap star, is reviled in the public. And this is largely due to her ability to make audiences believe that she is ruthless and mean.

But after an old man saves her life, Isabel finds herself unable to bring her role to life. In an attempt to save ratings, her network advises her to take a leave and find her mojo.
Through research and conversations with former kontrabidas, Isabel finds Bella Flores - the meanest of them all. And what she learns is that for her to get her mean streak back, Isabel must find the person who has hurt her the most in her past. So she must go back to her childhood town and find a boy named Chris Bernal (Aljur Abrenica).
Chris is still living in the town Isabel left when she was a child. He is a struggling employee and gardener, who works for the resort that his aunt manages. Chris is a pushover, and a people-pleaser. In his bid not to step into conflicts, he often finds himself trapped in difficult situations, including one that involves two women he does not love.
Even Joyce (Bea Binene), Chris’ younger sister, asks him to stand up for himself. But the only person he can try to control is her - wanting her to stay away from relationships until she graduates from college. And this includes staying away from Poy (Jake Vargas), another resort employee.
So what happens when Isabel, in her need to regain her kontrabida spirit, comes barging back into his life? Will her need to hurt him as much as she remembers he hurt her backfire? Will her attempts to ruin him change when she realizes that she might still have feelings for him?

And will the Kontrabida Girl finally find her Leading Man?

My Kontrabida girl is one of those films that'll get you confused with the title, is it a romantic film? Comedy? serious drama? or what? I guess this one of the things that will entice viewers to watch the movie to find out.

This Romantic - Comedy flick has a very unique story outline that not all typical Filipino Movie has. The unique team up of Rhian Ramos & Aljur Abrenica actually makes them very suitable partners for this film, Rhian can clearly portray her character's strong personality while Aljur's character portrays a subtle personality. These mix creates an interesting mix of characters in the film.

The fast phasing of the movie makes the movie not boring or dragging, the simple but effective punch-lines and humorous scenes makes the movie a very entertaining movie (and yes, no slapstick comedy here. yay!)

Additional supports from supporting characters such as Kevin Santos, Ken Chan, Enzo Pineda and Sef Cadayona made the movie more interesting with their own injection of humor into the film, and yes they all have butt exposure in this film but it was done er... in a proper way and not just to inject some nudity into the film.

An outstanding supporting character for me is Chariz Solomon who portrayed the Personal Assistant (in Movie life thats Sidekick for you) of Rhian Ramos' character, Chariz did a great job in putting humor to even the simplest scenes.

Overall, My Kontrabida Girl is one movie to watch this summer 2012,  It's definitely not your typical summer chick flick. Kudos to GMA Films for being brave enough to experiment on their team-up's and concepts.

My Kontrabida Girl will be showing nationwide on March 14, 2012
